Ingredients on a table.

Ingredients

  •  Flour Tortillas - These make up the base of the roll-ups providing a place for everything to stick while holding all of the ingredients together.
  • Cream Cheese - This creamy spread adds a layer of tangy flavor that pairs well with the turkey. It also helps the sandwich stay together.
  • Spinach - This healthy green is the perfect addition to any sandwich.
  • Sliced Cheese - You can use any cheese you enjoy. We love the combination of turkey and provolone.
  • Shredded Carrot - Adds texture and crunch along with a pop of color and natural sweetness to the mix.
  • Smoked Turkey - The main component of this dish, sliced deli turkey adds protein along with a rich smoky flavor.

A wrap with cream cheese and spinach.

Prepare the tortillas: Lay out the tortillas flat, then spread them evenly with cream cheese.

Layer the ingredients: On top of the cream cheese, add the spinach leaves on top. Then layer the turkey and cheese over top and sprinkle with shredded carrot.

Adding turkey and shredded carrot.

Roll and cut: Roll the tortilla with all of the ingredients carefully so it's tight but not too tight that it breaks. Cut each tortilla into 4-6 pieces and enjoy!

Cook's Tips

You'll want to start with fresh tortillas for this recipe. Dry tortillas will break easily and not roll properly. If necessary, you can warm your tortillas in the microwave to help them become more pliable.

Spread the cream cheese layer all the way to the edges. This will help the wraps stick together at the ends so they don't unravel.

Don't add too many fillings to the pinwheels or they will be difficult to roll.

If you're making these ahead of time, wait to cut them until just before serving so they don't dry out.

Variations

Use different meats: Instead of sliced turkey, try using ham, roast beef, or chicken.

Different cheeses: Try different cheese combinations such as Swiss and turkey or cheddar and ham.

Add more flavor: Swap the cream cheese for Basil Aioli, Horseradish Aioli, Chipotle Southwest Sauce, or Dill Mustard Sauce.

Add other veggies: In addition to or in place of the shredded carrots, try adding chopped bell peppers, cucumbers, or tomatoes.

Make them spicy: Add a little bit of heat by adding some jalapeño peppers, diced green chilies, or red pepper flakes.

Use flavored tortillas: Change the flavor by using garlic herb, spinach, or whole wheat tortillas.

Try a wrap: If you're not a fan of tortillas, try using sandwich wraps instead.

Storage & Freezing

Storing: These pinwheels can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. If they are not cut into pieces yet, they can last 4-5 days.

Freezing: I do not recommend freezing these as the tortillas will become dry and brittle when thawed.

FAQ

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes, you can make them a day or two in advance. Just store them in an airtight container in the fridge until you're ready to serve. If you cut them into pieces before storing them, they will last about three days.

What's the difference between a tortilla and a wrap?

Tortillas are made with flour and water while wraps are made with wheat flour, vegetable oil, and salt. Tortillas are soft and pliable while wraps are thinner and more delicate.

Can I use a different spread?

If you don't enjoy cream cheese, you can use mayo, hummus, or guacamole instead.
