Jar of sauce on a table, with text: Ikea copycat dill and mustard sauce.

This easy Creamy Dill Mustard Sauce recipe is a copycat of Ikea’s SÅS senap and dill sauce. It uses simple ingredients and is great to put with a variety of foods like salmon, pasta, rice, or even drizzled on top of potatoes. It's an easy way to add a huge flavor to so many dishes!

Jar of honey mustard dill sauce on a table.

We love the Senap and Dill sauce from Ikea but we wanted to make a cleaner version at home!

Not everyone has an Ikea nearby but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t enjoy this delicious homemade sauce that can be used so many different ways.

I'm a two hour drive from my nearest IKEA, so I don't go there very often.

So, the last time I picked up a few jars of their dill sauce, and I set to work testing out this copycat recipe.

It's just like the real thing!

I hope you love this copycat Ikea Creamy Dill Mustard Sauce as much as we do. There are so many ways to use it!

Try it slathered over Air Fryer Baby Potatoes for a burst of flavor. Or drizzled onto Salmon Bites or Air Fryer Tuna Steak.

It's a classic on salmon or gravadlax (smoked salmon) but it's also awesome on roasted vegetables or as a salad dressing.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

It tastes just like the real thing.

No cooking or baking is involved, simply whisk all the ingredients together.

It can be stored in the fridge for 3 weeks so it can be made ahead of time.

    It’s budget-friendly.

Made with clean ingredients and heart-healthy olive oil.

It's a versatile sauce that can be served on lox, gravadlax, vegetables, potatoes, in sandwiches or burgers, or as a dip!

    Ingredients on a table.

    Ingredients

Honey: Honey is used to make this sauce sweet and give it a thicker consistency.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil: This makes up the base of the sauce and is easy to whisk in with the other ingredients.

Dijon Mustard: Adds a classic mustard flavor that pairs well with the sweet honey.

Apple Cider Vinegar: This makes the sauce slightly tangy bringing everything in balance with its acidity.

Fresh Dill: This fresh herb brightens up the sauce and make it fresh. You can swap for dried dill instead.

Salt: Add salt to your liking to balance out the flavor profiles.

    Step By Step Tutorial

Wondering how to make Creamy Dill Mustard Sauce, just like at Ikea? It's super easy! Here's how to do it:

Honey and mustard in a dish.

In a medium sized bowl, whisk the mustard, honey and oil together well until fully combined.

    Adding the dill.

Then add the vinegar, dill and salt and whisk again.

Pour into a glass jar with a lid and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

    Tips

If sathe uce is whisked together, it may separate after it sits in the fridge. Give it a good shake to combine everything.

You may use a blender or stick blender to combine the sauce to make sure it emulsifies if you don’t want it to separate.

Make sure you use a glass jar with a sealed lid to keep the sauce fresh for as long as possible.

To make the sauce last even longer, use dried herbs instead of fresh herbs.

    Serving Suggestions

Enjoy on baked salmon or smoked salmon (gravadlax).

Use it as a dip for vegetable crudites.

Drizzle on top of cooked potatoes.

Toss it over a salad as a salad dressing.

    Stir into pasta or rice.

Enjoy as a glaze for roasted vegetables.

Serve it in a sandwich or burger.

Use this recipe as a sauce for fries.

    Variations

Swap out the honey for maple syrup or agave for a different sweet profile.

Add in a touch of roasted sesame oil for a bit of Asian flare.

Use a pinch of cayenne pepper to make this recipe slightly spicy.

Chop up some other herbs like rosemary, sage and thyme to use in place of or along with the dill to make super herb sauce.

Use coarse grain mustard for a chunkier sauce.

    Special diets

Vegan: Make sure you use maple syrup or agave nectar in place of the honey.

    Storage

Storing: If you pour your whisked creamy dill mustard sauce into a glass jar with an airtight lid, it will last in the fridge for up to 3 weeks or maybe even longer if you decide to use dried herbs. Make sure you give it a quick shake before using, as ingredients may separate.

Freezing: This sauce cannot be frozen as the oil will not freeze or defrost well.

    FAQs

Can I Use Yellow Mustard? It is not recommended to use yellow mustard in this recipe as it does change the flavor profile. It’s best to use dijon mustard in this recipe.

Can I Use Dried Herbs? Absolutely! Although fresh herbs have the best flavor impact, you can add dried herbs in place of them.

What Goes Well With a Mustard and Honey Sauce? Sweet potatoes, salmon, vegetables, pasta or even fresh greens.
