Crispy, golden Hasselback Fingerling Potatoes are a delicious way to serve up spuds! Serve them as a fun alternative to fries, or as an appetizer with dipping sauces.

A table with a bunch of parsley and a tray of baby hasselback potatoes.

Hasselback Fingerling Potatoes offer a perfect blend of simplicity and sophistication, bringing a crispy exterior and a tender interior to your table.

As someone who's always on the lookout for easy yet flavorful recipes, I can't help but share the joy of making these delightful spuds.

We serve them up as a side dish to Air Fryer Tuna Steak or Garlic Parmesan Chicken Thighs. But they're also great as an appetizer or for game day. Just pile them up on a serving dish with a selection of dipping sauces. I'd recommend Chipotle Southwest Sauce or Bacon Aioli.

Plus, you can make them in the oven or air fryer. I've given you both methods below.

What is Hasselback?

Hasselback refers to a cooking method where a vegetable or fruit, typically potatoes, is partially sliced into thin, uniform slices while leaving the base intact, creating a fan-like appearance. This technique originated in Sweden and is named after the Hasselbacken restaurant in Stockholm.

What are Fingerling Potatoes?

Fingerling potatoes are small, elongated potatoes with a thin skin and a creamy texture.

They come in various colors such as red, yellow, and purple and are prized for their delicate flavor and versatility in cooking.

Oven Baked Method

Preheat the oven to 400°F / 200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cut slits in the potatoes, about ⅛ inch apart, but don’t cut all the way through. It may be helpful to lay a chopstick or wooden spoon handle on either side of the potato, then cut the slits so the knife can’t go all the way through.

Place the potatoes in a single layer on the baking sheet. Drizzle or spray with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Place into the oven and bake for 30 - 45 minutes or until cooked through  and slightly crispy. The time will depend on the size of your potatoes.

If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the potatoes during the last 5-10 minutes of baking. This will add a delicious cheesy flavor and golden crust to the potatoes.

Air Fryer Method
Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded.

Air fry the potatoes for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to ensure even cooking.

The potatoes are done when they are tender on the inside and crispy and golden brown on the outside. Adjust the cooking time as needed based on the size and thickness of the potatoes.

Serving Suggestions

  • Try them with a little butter and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese.
  • Serve as a side dish with roasted chicken, grilled steak, or fish.
  • Pair with a dipping sauce like garlic aioli or sour cream mixed with chives.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color and freshness.

Variations

  • Sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme before baking for added flavor.
  • Substitute olive oil with melted butter for a richer taste.
  • Experiment with different cheese options such as cheddar or mozzarella for a cheesy twist.
  • Add minced garlic or garlic powder to the seasoning mix for a flavorful kick.

Storage

  • Store leftover hasselback fingerling potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
