These Halloween Pizza Monsters are super simple to make, customizable and a fun savory Halloween recipe.

We love getting the kids involved making them, adding their favorite pizza toppings inside, and adding the mozzarella/olive 'eyeballs'.

Halloween can be all about candy. But we love making some savory, spooky, tasty savory recipes for lunch and dinner, like these pizzas and other Halloween Dinner Ideas.

We often have the kids' friends over for Halloween dinner, so I love getting them all involved in making these cute (ahem, scary!), pizzas.

They're sooo easy and budget-friendly. You only need a sheet of puff pastry or crescent roll dough. Then add pizza sauce, shredded cheese and any toppings that you like!

When they've baked, we like to let some of the pizza sauce ooze out of the monster's 'mouths', and add slices of mozzarella and olives to look like eyeballs.

They're quicky, easy and tasty!

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry (or Crescent Dough): The flaky, buttery base of our monsters. You can use either puff pastry or crescent dough, depending on your preference. If frozen, thaw the pastry, but make sure that it's still cold.
  • Pizza Sauce: A zesty tomato sauce that provides the classic pizza flavor. Feel free to use your favorite store-bought sauce or make your own homemade pizza sauce.
  • Pepperoni: The key to adding a hint of spookiness to your monsters. You can also use other toppings like black olives or sausage.
  • Mozzarella: Gooey, melty cheese that makes your monsters extra delightful. Use shredded mozzarella for easy distribution.
  • Lightly Beaten Egg: This acts as our 'glue' to seal the pastry and gives the monsters their golden glow.

Instructions

If you're wondering how to make this Mini Halloween Pizza Monsters Recipe recipe, don't worry, it's easy!

Just follow this step-by-step photo tutorial. Then scroll down to the recipe card for the full ingredients list and recipe method.

Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cutting circles out of the pastry with a cutter.

Roll out the puff pastry to about 4mm thickness.

Cut out circles approximately 3-inches/8cm. Re-roll any scraps of dough and cut out more circles.

Spreading a little marinara on each circle of pastry.

Spread each circle with a little pizza sauce (about ½ a teaspoon), not quite to the edges, then add a little pepperoni and mozzarella in the centre.

Adding pepperoni and cheese.

Add a little water on your finger around the edges of the circle (to help it seal).

Folding the pizzas and using a fork to crimp and seal them, then brush with egg wash.

Fold each circle in half over the fillings, then press the edges gently with a fork to seal (TIP: you can leave a tiny gap near the middle so a little filling spills out and looks scary).

Place onto the baking sheet and brush with the egg.

Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or until golden.

Slicing the black olives and mini mozzarella balls.

Allow the pizzas to cool slightly, then use a little pizza sauce to 'glue' the eyes onto the edge. We also like to add extra pizza sauce coming out of the 'mouths'.

Serving Suggestions

  • Halloween Party Platter: Arrange your Pizza Monsters on a spooky platter alongside other Halloween-themed snacks.
  • Dipping Sauce: Serve with a side of marinara, Lime Crema, Ranch Dip or ranch dressing for dipping.
  • Monster Salad: Pair your monsters with a simple side salad to balance the flavors.
  • Finger Food: Great for snacking while watching Halloween movies or passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Add dishes of Korean Chicken Wings, 4 Ingredient Pasta Salad, or Hasselback Fingerling Potatoes.

Variations

  • Veggie Monsters: Create a vegetarian version by using sliced olives, bell peppers, and mushrooms instead of pepperoni.
  • Spicy Monsters: Add a touch of heat with some sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes.
  • Breakfast Monsters: Make these for breakfast by filling them with scrambled eggs, cheese, and cooked bacon or sausage.
  • Sweet Monsters: For a dessert twist, use Nutella and sliced bananas or berries for a sweet treat.

Storage

Halloween Pizza Monsters are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven when they're warm, crispy, and at their spookiest. However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes to heat.

Recipe Tips

  1. Room for Creativity: Encourage your inner monster artist! Play with different fillings and facial expressions to give each monster its unique personality.
  2. Sealing the Edges: Be sure to press the edges of the pastry firmly with a fork to seal in all that cheesy goodness. A little filling spilling out near the middle can make your monsters look even scarier.
  3. Double Batch: These monsters disappear quickly, so consider making a double batch to keep the goblins at bay.

FAQ

Can I make these in advance?

While they are best fresh, you can assemble the monsters a few hours before baking and keep them in the refrigerator. Bake them just before serving.
