Raw brussels sprouts on a table.

This list of the best, most incredible, creative and flavorful Brussels Sprouts recipes will blow your mind.

    Seriously.

Wondering how to cook Brussels sprouts?

This epic list is full of all the BEST ways to cook up your sprouts, from oven-roasted and air fryer, to raw in salads and stir-fried.

Whether you want a classic recipe for the holidays or an unusual recipe - we've got you covered!

I get that some people think they don't like these veggies. Well, maybe that's just because they have had them cooked right!

Bland, boiled sprouts are a thing of the past.

We're all about crispy oven-roasted brussels sprouts or cooking them until crispy in the air fryer. We also love adding them to tasty dishes like pasta and pies!

So, join me on this journey into the best Brussels sprout recipes around.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are about to get even better!

    What are Brussels Sprouts?

Brussels Sprouts are a nutritious cruciferous vegetable. They look like tiny cabbages and are part of the same family, however, they are not just small cabbages.

Instead, they are edible buds that grow on a tall stalk. Be warned though that they can taste very sulfurous and bitter if overcooked, so only cook them until just tender!

As a winter vegetable, they are often served at Thanksgiving and Christmas time, or through the winter.

    How to prep Brussels sprouts

Sprouts aren't difficult to prep. Simply follow these easy instructions:

    1. Wash them to remove any dirt or impurities.
    2. Peel off any loose outer layers or any that are brown on the edges.
    3. Trim a little from the bases to remove any browning.

TIP: In the past, it was a popular practice to score a cross in the base of them. However, this isn't necessary. If you're steaming or boiling your sprouts it will let too much moisture up into the sprouts and make them soggy.

    How to cook Brussels sprouts

Here are two very basic methods of cooking Brussels sprouts.

First, prep the sprouts as above.

Roasting: Toss the sprouts in a little oil, then spread out in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Roast at 400F/200C for 20 minutes or until golden.

Boiling: Bring a pot of water to a boil, add a pinch of salt, then add the sprouts. After 5 minutes, check if they're tender by piercing one with a sharp knife. Cook for a few more minutes if necessary. You want them to be tender, but not overly soft.

    Ways to Cook Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are more versatile than you'd think! Try cooking the nutritious vegetable with these different methods:

    • Roasted - the new classic way to enjoy sprouts! Oven roast them until crispy outside and tender inside.
    • Air Fryer - Using an Air fryer is a great way to make the roasted quickly.
    • Sautéed - try pan-frying halved sprouts and tossing them through pasta with a little oil and parmesan cheese. Or serve them on their own as a quick side dish.
    • Stir fry sprouts along with other vegetables and diced chicken, with a bit of teriyaki or Unagi Sauce. Serve on rice or noodles.
    • Shred fresh raw sprouts and toss them into a wintery salad. Try this Shredded Brussels Sprouts salad.
    • Bake them in a cream sauce under a crown of scrunched phyllo dough in this Brussels Sprouts Filo Pie.
    • Microwave - Microwave Brussels Sprouts are a super quick way to make them tender and delicious!

    Can I eat them raw?

Yes! In fact, I love raw sprouts. Finely slice raw Brussel sprouts (or use the slicing blade of a food processor). Then toss them into a wintery salad. I love adding thinly sliced pear or apple, pecans, dried cranberries, and Pomegranate Vinaigrette.
