What is Bisquick?
Bisquick™ is a premade baking mix of flour, shortening, baking powder, and salt. It was created in 1930 as a way to quickly and easily make biscuits and is now sold by General Mills under the Betty Crocker brand name.
Like many other households, it was a staple in our cupboard growing up. We used it for pancakes, biscuits, and waffles usually, but also got a little more creative with casseroles and cakes!
It really is a versatile all-purpose baking mix.
Wondering what exactly is in that box of Bisquick original? I've gathered all the ingredients here for you:
- Enriched Wheat Flour (wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid)
- Vegetable Oil (palm, canola, high oleic soybean, and/or sunflower oil)
- Corn Starch
- Dextrose (a type of sugar that's usually made from corn or wheat)
- Leavening Agent (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate)
- Monoglycerides (emulsifiers that help oil and water to blend)
You can even make your own homemade bisquick.
We all know that it's great for pancakes and biscuits, but here is an epic list of other recipes to inspire you to get creative with your box of baking mix!
